Make Him Your Focus

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…” — Hebrews 12:2

One of the most important disciplines in the Christian life is learning to keep your eyes fixed on the Lord Jesus Christ. Every day, we encounter distractions, pressures, challenges, opinions, disappointments, and circumstances that can easily shift our attention away from God and His Word. Yet, as believers, we are called to remain steadfast, focused, and fully committed to Christ.

The Passion Translation of 2 Timothy 2:8 gives us a powerful instruction: “…make Jesus, the Anointed One, your focus in life and ministry….”

Think about those words: make Jesus your focus.

Jesus should not simply be one of the many things competing for your attention. He should be the centre of everything. Your thoughts, decisions, ambitions, relationships, plans, energy, and pursuits should all be guided by your love for Him and His purpose for your life.

Hebrews 12:2 gives us a beautiful picture of Jesus Himself:

“…His example is this: Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his, he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation, and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God.”

What an incredible example!

Jesus endured pain, rejection, humiliation, suffering, and the agony of the cross because He was focused on the glorious outcome. He looked beyond the suffering and saw the joy that awaited Him. He saw the people who would be saved through His sacrifice. He saw you.

His focus gave Him the strength to endure.

In the same way, you must learn to look beyond your present circumstances. Your current difficulties are not the conclusion of your story. Your setbacks are not the end of your journey. Your challenges do not have the authority to redefine God's purpose for your life.

Keep your eyes on Jesus.

When life becomes difficult, look to Him.
When people disappoint you, look to Him.
When opportunities seem delayed, look to Him.
When you feel discouraged, look to Him.
When you don't understand what God is doing, look to Him.

Don't allow temporary circumstances to distract you from an eternal purpose.

Focus produces strength. Focus gives direction. Focus develops endurance. When your eyes are fixed on Jesus and your heart is firmly anchored in God's Word, you will not easily be moved by the storms around you.

This is why God instructed Joshua:

“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night… Then you will be prosperous and successful.” — Joshua 1:8 NIV

Notice the connection between focus, the Word, and success.

Kingdom success is not accidental. It comes from deliberately choosing to remain in God's Word, follow His instructions, trust His wisdom, and pursue His purpose.

The world may tell you to focus on your problems.
People may tell you to focus on your limitations.
Circumstances may tell you to focus on what you have lost.

But God's Word tells you to look unto Jesus.

So, make Him your focus.

Don't just make Jesus part of your life—build your life around Him. Let Him shape your vision, guide your decisions, strengthen your faith, and determine the direction of your journey.

When Jesus is your focus, distractions lose their power.

When Jesus is your focus, difficulties cannot stop you.

When Jesus is your focus, you can keep moving forward even when the road becomes difficult.

Keep looking unto Jesus. Keep trusting His Word. Keep pursuing His purpose. Keep your eyes on Him until you finish your race.

Dear Father, thank you for your Word that keeps me steadfast, focused and established in your perfect will. My gaze is fixed on you, and my heart is anchored in your truth. I refuse distractions and remain unwavering in the path you’ve ordained for me. I walk in continual victory, prosperity and success, as I live according to your Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
