This is one of the most common interview questions, yet many candidates answer it poorly. They simply list qualities such as:

  • "I am hardworking."

  • "I am honest."

  • "I am a team player."

  • "I am punctual."

While these are positive attributes, they are often too generic and fail to demonstrate how those strengths translate into workplace performance and results.

The interview panel is not interested in hearing a list of adjectives. They want evidence of the strengths that will help you succeed in the role and contribute to the organization's objectives.

The most effective answers do three things:

  1. Identify a strength.

  2. Explain how it has been applied.

  3. Demonstrate the value or impact it creates.

THE S.T.R.O.N.G. METHOD

A powerful framework for answering this question is:

S – State the Strength

Clearly identify your strength.
