This is one of the most revealing interview questions because it helps the panel determine whether you have genuinely researched the organization, understand its mission and objectives, and are motivated by more than just obtaining employment.
Many candidates make the mistake of answering:
"I need a job."
"The salary is good."
"It is a reputable organization."
"I want career growth."
While these may be true, they do not demonstrate a strong connection between your professional goals and the organization's mission.
The panel wants to know:
Why this organization specifically?
What do you know about us?
How does this role align with your experience and aspirations?
Are you likely to stay and contribute meaningfully?
Are you motivated by our mission and values?
THE F.I.T. METHOD
A powerful framework for answering this question is:
F – Fascination With the Organization
What attracts you to the organization?
I – Impact and Alignment
How do your skills and values align with its mission?
T – Transformation and Growth
How will you contribute while also growing professionally?
EXECUTIVE-LEVEL MODEL ANSWER
"Thank you for the question.
There are several reasons why I would like to work with your organization.
First, I am genuinely attracted to the organization's mission, mandate, and the impact it continues to make within its sector. I have taken time to learn about your strategic objectives, values, and the important role you play in serving stakeholders and contributing to national and organizational development. I find this both inspiring and motivating.
Second, I see a strong alignment between the requirements of this role and my professional background. Throughout my career, I have developed experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, administration, business development, team leadership, and organizational performance improvement. I believe these experiences have prepared me to contribute effectively to the objectives of this position and support the broader goals of the organization.
Third, I am attracted to organizations that value professionalism, innovation, accountability, continuous improvement, and excellence. From my research and understanding, your organization has built a reputation for these qualities, and I would be proud to be associated with an institution that upholds such standards.
Another reason I am interested in this opportunity is the potential to make a meaningful contribution. I am motivated by environments where I can apply my knowledge, experience, and skills to solve problems, improve processes, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and contribute to organizational success. I believe this role would provide an excellent platform for me to do so.
Additionally, I see this position as an opportunity for mutual growth. While I am confident that I can add value through my experience and expertise, I also recognize that your organization offers an environment where I can continue learning, developing professionally, and expanding my leadership and management capabilities.
Most importantly, I am looking for an opportunity where my work contributes to a larger purpose. I want to be part of an organization whose work creates positive impact, and I believe your institution provides exactly that opportunity.
For these reasons, I am genuinely excited about the prospect of joining your organization and contributing to its continued success."

THE INTERVIEWER'S HIDDEN QUESTION
Behind "Why do you want to work with us?" is often another question:
"Will this candidate be committed, motivated, and capable of contributing to our success?"
The strongest candidates answer by demonstrating that they have done their research, understand the organization's purpose, and see themselves as part of its future success—not merely as someone looking for employment.
