This is one of the most important and decisive questions in any interview. While questions such as "Tell us about yourself" and "Walk us through your CV" help the panel understand your background, this question challenges you to explain why you are the best candidate among all the applicants who have been shortlisted.

The panel is essentially asking:

"What makes you different?"

"What value will you bring to our organization?"

"Why should we choose you over other qualified candidates?"

Many candidates lose marks because they provide generic responses such as:

  • "I am hardworking."

  • "I am a team player."

  • "I need the job."

  • "I am passionate."

While these qualities are important, they do not distinguish you from other candidates. Every applicant claims to be hardworking and passionate.
