What you'll be stepping into
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of 4 (Four) months. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Kampala, Uganda .The position is paid according to SG7.
Your responsibilities
Duties and areas of responsibilities:
Stakeholder Coordination and Advocacy:
Develop and implement advocacy strategies to promote catchment-based water resources management.
Engage with key stakeholders, including government ministries, parliamentarians, civil society organizations,
Develop training programs and materials for local institutions and communities on catchment-based water resource management.
Facilitate the establishment and strengthening of local water management committees and other relevant bodies.
Demonstration of Project measures
Support capacity-building initiatives at district, sub-county, and community levels to enhance local governance and management of water resources.
Develop training programs and materials for local institutions and communities on catchment-based water resource management.
Facilitate the establishment and strengthening of local water management committees and other relevant bodies.
Private sector entities, research institutions, academia, and cultural and religious leaders.
Organize and facilitate meetings, workshops, and forums to discuss and promote water and environment policy reforms.
Prepare and disseminate advocacy materials, including policy briefs, reports, and presentations.
Legal and Policy Development
Contribute to drafting and review of legislation supporting catchment-based water resources management in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Monitor and analyze policy developments and legislative changes related to water and environment sectors.
Institutional Strengthening
Support capacity-building initiatives at district, sub-county, and community levels to enhance local governance and management of water resources.
Communication and Reporting
Maintain regular communication with key stakeholders and partners at national, catchment and sub catchment levels.
Prepare and submit regular progress reports to Sector Advisor-WASH Systems.
Representation
With support from the Sector Advisor-WASH, organize WHH Internal WASH Sector Coordination meetings.
Represent WHH in external WASH sector coordination fora at national level if delegated or together with the Sector Advisor-WASH Systems.
Your profile
Required Qualifications, Competencies and Experience for the position.
Environmental Science, Environmental Health science, Water Resources Management, Water Resources Engineering, Public Policy and Advocacy or any other related field.
At least 5 years of experience in advocacy, policy development, or project management in the water and environment sector.
Proven experience in stakeholder management, including working with civil society, government, and academic institutions to build and expand networks.
Proven experience implementing WASH system strengthening and capacity-building initiatives
Proven experience and familiarity with Catchment-based Water Resource Management practices.
Strong coordination and networking skills, with a demonstrated ability to adhere to and implement organizational policies.
Excellent planning, organization, and reporting skills
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent teamwork and flexibility to adapt to positive changes and advance the project/organization goal.
