About the Role

Diageo is seeking a Credit Analyst to support credit management, distributor account administration, customer service, rebates, trade investments, and order-cycle processes within Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL).

The role will provide critical financial and commercial insights relating to distributor trading and credit risk while ensuring that customer accounts are accurately maintained, reconciled, and supported.

The Credit Analyst will also oversee the accurate processing of rebates, free issues, credit notes, debit notes, promotional credit notes, customer payments, credit limits, and related master-data activities.

This position requires close collaboration with Commercial, Sales, Logistics, Marketing, Finance, Customer Service, Credit Control, Order Creation, DBSC teams, distributors, banks, and other external stakeholders.

Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of the role is to support the growth of Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) by effectively managing credit and order-cycle processes while minimising customer credit exposure and improving service delivery.

The role will help ensure that:

  • Customer credit limits are accurately maintained and reviewed.

  • Distributor accounts are regularly reconciled and outstanding issues followed up.

  • Bank guarantees are renewed before expiry to minimise credit and supply risks.

  • Free issues, credit notes, debit notes, and promotional credits are processed accurately and on time.

  • Rebates and trade investments are accurately captured and processed.

  • Customer payments are correctly allocated to their respective accounts.

  • Customer and credit master data remains accurate and up to date.

  • Commercial teams receive timely financial and credit insights to support decision-making.

  • Customer issues and complaints are tracked and resolved within agreed timelines.

  • Order processing is supported by an effective and well-controlled credit environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Credit Analysis and Risk Management

  • Analyse debtor and distributor reports regularly and provide relevant insights to the Commercial team.

  • Monitor customer credit exposure and identify accounts approaching or exceeding approved credit limits.

  • Monitor credit limits in SAP, comparing total customer debt against approved limits.

  • Ensure balances exceeding approved credit limits have the appropriate approvals before further exposure is created.

  • Monitor expiring bank guarantees and coordinate timely renewals to prevent disruption to customer supply.

  • Ensure renewed bank guarantees are properly confirmed and original documentation is maintained in the custody of the appropriate legal function.

  • Coordinate the bank guarantee recall process where required, particularly following account closure.

  • Identify emerging credit risks and communicate them to relevant stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of best-practice credit management processes.

2. Distributor Account Management and Reconciliation

  • Ensure distributor accounts are reconciled accurately and within agreed timelines.

  • Investigate and follow up on unresolved reconciliation items.

  • Maintain clear records of outstanding account issues and ensure appropriate actions are taken.

  • Work closely with Commercial and Finance teams to resolve account discrepancies.

  • Ensure customer payments are correctly received, recorded, and allocated to the relevant accounts.

  • Provide accurate distributor statements and account information to distributors and banking partners when required.

  • Analyse distributor account information to identify trends, discrepancies, and potential financial risks.

3. Rebates and Trade Investment Management

  • Liaise with Customer Marketing and Commercial Finance teams regarding customer rebates and trade spends.

  • Ensure rebate and trade investment information is accurately captured and processed.

  • Prepare and complete order upload files with a high level of accuracy.

  • Support the timely processing of customer rebates and related financial adjustments.

  • Monitor credit and debit note activities to ensure accuracy and compliance with established processes.

  • Run SAP reports to supervise and reconcile monthly debit and credit note summaries.

  • Prepare monthly free-issue and cut-off reports.

4. Order Cycle and Customer Service

  • Coordinate with the market and DBSC teams on order-processing activities.

  • Support the accurate processing of free-issue credits, debit notes, credit notes, and promotional credit notes.

  • Work closely with the Order Creation, Credit Control, and Customer Service teams to resolve customer issues promptly.

  • Maintain a customer complaints log and issue-resolution tracker.

  • Monitor outstanding customer complaints and follow up with responsible teams until resolution.

  • Identify recurring customer service challenges and recommend opportunities for process improvement.

  • Support a seamless customer experience by ensuring financial and order-related issues are handled efficiently.

  • Build strong working relationships with distributors, banks, internal teams, and other stakeholders.

5. Customer and Credit Master Data Management

  • Act as the market requester for customer and credit master-data changes.

  • Facilitate the creation and setup of new customer accounts.

  • Coordinate requests for changes to customer credit limits.

  • Ensure customer information in relevant systems is accurate, complete, and current.

  • Maintain required OTC-DBSC master-data documentation and forms.

  • Ensure system changes accurately reflect approved customer information and requirements.

  • Work with relevant DBSC teams to ensure master-data requests are processed within agreed timelines.

6. Controls, Compliance and Process Improvement

  • Ensure CARM controls are consistently applied across relevant OTC processes.

  • Maintain a strong control environment and ensure required control checklists are completed accurately.

  • Document OTC processes, procedures, and associated controls.

  • Identify control weaknesses, process gaps, and opportunities for improved efficiency.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives designed to strengthen customer service and operational efficiency.

  • Ensure activities are performed in accordance with company policies, financial controls, and established procedures.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails for relevant transactions and processes.

7. Empties and Distributor Account Analysis

  • Analyse empties recorded in distributor accounts against physical empties held at depots.

  • Identify discrepancies between system records and physical inventory.

  • Work with the Commercial team to investigate and resolve identified gaps.

  • Support efforts to address distributor capitalisation and account-management issues arising from empties discrepancies.

  • Provide relevant analysis and insights to support commercial decision-making.

8. Reporting and Business Insights

  • Prepare regular reports relating to credit exposure, distributor accounts, free issues, cut-offs, rebates, and other relevant activities.

  • Analyse financial and operational data to identify trends and areas requiring management attention.

  • Provide timely insights to commercial and finance stakeholders to support informed decisions.

  • Use data to highlight risks, unresolved issues, customer trends, and opportunities for process improvement.

  • Contribute to improving customer service performance and overall stakeholder satisfaction.

Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • A university or college degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related business field is required.

  • A professional accounting qualification is desirable.

  • At least 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience.

  • Demonstrated professional integrity and strong ethical standards.
