What you'll be stepping into
Key Responsibilities
A. Strategy
Develop and implement the Business Growth Strategy to achieve the Bank’s strategic objectives in alignment with the Bank’s Mission and Vision.
Ensure that the strategy, business plans, budgets, policies, and procedures are communicated in a timely manner to the respective staff and other stakeholders.
Lead the preparation of periodic strategic plans that respond to identified opportunities and challenges.
Manage the annual business planning process, ensuring that business plans align with and support the Bank’s longer-term strategic plans.
Monitor regional performance against strategic plans, clearly identify performance gaps, and support management team members to develop and implement plans to address these gaps.
B. Business Growth
Drive initiatives to maximize cross-selling opportunities for the benefit of the Bank in an effective and efficient manner.
Monitor and periodically review the loan portfolio to evaluate its quality and performance.
Provide overall management of regional operations, ensuring the growth of the loan book and effective portfolio quality management.
Drive the management of BUBL Business Growth activities, including customer recruitment, loan processing and underwriting, reporting, recovery, and all functions providing lending support at the regional level.
Support the formulation of loan policies, procedures, and processes to ensure the overall quality of BUBL’s lending portfolio.
Responsibly provide a range of financial services to people at the bottom of the pyramid, with particular focus on women living in poverty in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
Support the creation of self-employment opportunities, build financial resilience, and harness women’s entrepreneurial spirit through economic empowerment.
Gather relevant market intelligence and conduct competitor analysis to facilitate timely interventions and strategies that contribute to the growth of the Bank’s assets and liabilities.
Drive customer satisfaction and implement all possible mechanisms to ensure high standards of service quality and a conducive and pleasant branch environment.
Spearhead BUBL’s expansion into new strategic markets and implement go-to-market strategies targeting market segments that will result in quantifiable business growth initiatives aligned with BUBL’s objectives.
C. Savings Mobilization
Develop deposit mobilization strategies and plans aimed at:
Growing the deposit base.
Increasing customer numbers.
Strengthening relationship management.
Enhancing customer experience.
Improving delivery channels.
Promoting technological innovations.
D. Digital Transformation
Drive the adoption and usage of the Bank’s digital channels.
E. Knowledge and Grants Management
Support the implementation of new projects and ensure the effective utilization of donor funds received by BUBL.
F. People Management
Drive a culture of high performance by monitoring staff performance, setting SMART performance objectives, and conducting regular performance appraisals.
Promote the BRAC culture by encouraging mission-driven and BRAC values-based behavior.
Drive staff development through coaching and mentoring.
Provide a conducive working environment by planning staff leave and ensuring that all staff take leave within approved calendar periods.
Drive employee motivation and inspire team members.
Promote and enhance teamwork.
G. Safeguarding Responsibilities
Ensure the safety of team members from harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation in order to achieve BUBL’s safeguarding implementation goals.
Act as a key source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding to help establish and maintain a safe working environment.
Practice, promote, and endorse safeguarding policies among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
Follow safeguarding reporting procedures whenever a reportable incident occurs and encourage others to do the same.
H. Control Environment
Identify and assess risks faced by branches within the region and maintain an effective system of controls to minimize exposure.
Manage and monitor compliance with procedures, Bank policies, and guidelines throughout the region.
Education, Experience and Competence Requirements
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or any related field.
A Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
Required Experience and Competencies
At least 8 years of banking experience, with more than 5 years at a management level.
Experience working in a microfinance financial institution is an added advantage.
Proven track record of developing strategies, policies, systems, and procedures for the delivery of customer service within a financial institution.
Knowledge of Ugandan banking regulations and statutory requirements.
Strong networking skills.
Good negotiation skills.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to lead people in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team environment.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to adhere to timelines.
Ability to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
Strong ability to formulate concepts and strategies.
