What you'll be stepping into
Mandela National Stadium Limited is seeking a reliable and physically capable Grounds Man to support the maintenance of the stadium's outdoor facilities and playing areas.
The Grounds Man will be responsible for maintaining lawns, gardens, landscaping, and playing fields to ensure a clean, safe, well-maintained, and visually appealing environment for stadium users, sporting activities, and events.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Grounds Man will be responsible for:
Cutting grass, trimming hedges, and maintaining flower beds, trees, and other landscaped areas across the stadium grounds.
Planting and watering grass, flowers, and other vegetation as required to maintain healthy and attractive grounds.
Removing weeds, litter, and debris from lawns, walkways, and other outdoor areas to maintain cleanliness and safety.
Preparing and maintaining playing fields and outdoor sports areas according to operational requirements.
Applying fertilizers and pesticides as directed to support healthy plant and turf growth.
Operating and maintaining grounds maintenance tools and equipment safely and responsibly.
Reporting any damage, defects, hazards, or other concerns identified on the grounds to the Grounds Supervisor for timely action.
Supporting general grounds and landscaping activities as assigned.
Minimum Academic Qualification
Applicants should have:
A Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or an equivalent qualification.
Required Work Experience
At least one (1) year of relevant working experience at a similar level in a reputable organization.
Technical Knowledge and Practical Skills
The successful candidate should have:
Knowledge of grounds and landscaping maintenance, including routine care of lawns, gardens, and outdoor spaces.
Ability to safely use grounds maintenance tools and equipment for mowing, trimming, planting, and general field maintenance.
Basic knowledge of plant and turf care, including watering, fertilization, and general vegetation maintenance.
Knowledge of field and garden preparation techniques, including preparation and maintenance of playing fields and landscaped areas.
Physical and Behavioral Requirements
Candidates should demonstrate:
Physical stamina and strength to perform outdoor grounds maintenance duties.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail when maintaining grounds, identifying hazards, and caring for playing surfaces.
Good time management skills to complete routine maintenance activities within required schedules.
Integrity and accountability in the use of tools, equipment, and assigned resources.
