Job Purpose
The Internal Motor Assessor is responsible for effectively managing motor claims related to leakage by accurately assessing losses, detecting and eliminating fraudulent, exaggerated, or fictitious claims, and ensuring the efficient, customer-focused, and cost-effective settlement of all motor claims.
The role requires adherence to company policies, underwriting guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Verify and validate all motor assessment reports before authorizing repairs, determine accurate pre-accident values, and ensure compliance with policy conditions.
Conduct prompt first inspections of reported accidents and post-repair inspections within assigned regions to confirm the quality and completeness of repairs.
Enhance recoveries by accurately valuing salvage and scrap parts, coordinating with disposal agents, and initiating third-party recoveries where applicable.
Regularly engage with internal staff and provide technical guidance on various reasonable options for settling motor claims.
Identify and flag exaggerated, fictitious, or non-accident-related damages and adjust repair costs to reflect reasonable market rates.
Continuously assess garages, motor assessors, and other service providers based on pricing, turnaround time, quality, and integrity, and recommend additions to or removals from approved service provider panels.
Provide timely and evidence-based technical support to internal claims staff, underwriting teams, and management regarding vehicle repair options, parts availability, and settlement strategies.
Prepare periodic reports covering customer feedback, repair cost trends, salvage values, service provider performance, and motor vehicle market pricing.
Ensure that all assessments and recommendations comply with national traffic and insurance regulations as well as internal company procedures.
DELIVERABLES FOR THE ROLE
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver:
Accurate and timely repair cost assessments supported by documented justification.
Negotiated discounts and cost savings from service providers.
Verified post-repair inspection reports detailing workmanship and parts used.
Immediate site inspections for newly reported accidents.
Salvage and recovery reports demonstrating improved returns and reduced net claim costs.
ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (AML) EXPECTATIONS
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring adherence to, implementation, and adoption of Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Sanctions-related policies, procedures, and process requirements within Old Mutual and its subsidiaries.
The role will include:
Executing customer due diligence processes.
Ensuring compliance with Know-Your-Customer (KYC) standards.
Conducting ongoing and enhanced due diligence.
Maintaining accurate and high-quality data.
Identifying and monitoring potential AML, Sanctions, or Compliance breaches and unusual activities.
Escalating identified concerns to the Risk and Compliance Office for appropriate action.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Candidates should demonstrate:
Knowledge of motor vehicle diagnosis, repairs, and valuation.
Ability to analyze motor vehicle damages.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Academic Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant or related field, with a specific bias in Automotive Engineering.
Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Insurance – Required.
Additional Qualifications – Added Advantage:
Diploma in Insurance, such as ITC and/or CII.
Certificate in Loss Adjustment (CILA).
Work Experience
At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
