What you'll be stepping into

The Learning Commons & Innovation Coordinator will coordinate learner-centred services that support collaborative, independent, and experiential learning.

The role combines academic library services, AI literacy, digital learning, innovation, creative technologies, research support, and student engagement. The successful candidate will work closely with academic schools and university departments to develop programmes that strengthen students' digital competencies, problem-solving abilities, creativity, research skills, and practical knowledge.

The position will also support the effective use and development of the University's Learning Commons, AI, Maker, and Media spaces.

Key Responsibilities

Learning Commons and Learner Support

  • Coordinate the development and delivery of learner-centred services that support collaborative, independent, and experiential learning.

  • Develop learning programmes and activities that enhance student engagement, creativity, and practical skills.

  • Work with academic schools to strengthen library services and learning programmes.

  • Coordinate student and peer-support activities.

  • Recruit, train, and supervise student assistants, peer mentors, technology assistants, and other personnel supporting the Library's learning ecosystem.

AI Literacy and Digital Learning

  • Coordinate the AI Literacy Studio.

  • Develop and deliver programmes that build AI literacy and prompt literacy.

  • Train learners to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.

  • Promote responsible and ethical use of generative AI.

  • Support students and researchers in using AI-enabled research tools and other scholarly technologies.

  • Design and facilitate training in digital citizenship, research technologies, information discovery, information evaluation, and emerging digital tools.

Innovation and Creative Technologies

  • Facilitate ideation, design thinking, prototyping, experimentation, and interdisciplinary innovation projects.

  • Develop and manage services supporting podcasting, video and audio production, photography, graphic design, digital storytelling, and other creative technologies.

  • Develop and deliver innovation challenges, bootcamps, clinics, workshops, and other creative learning programmes.

  • Identify and support opportunities for students and staff to experiment with emerging technologies.

Research and Scholarly Technology Support

  • Support students and researchers in the effective use of digital research tools.

  • Provide guidance on AI-enabled research and reference-management software.

  • Support the use of research technologies and other scholarly digital tools.

  • Promote effective use of data-analysis applications and relevant digital resources.

Collaboration and Partnerships

  • Establish effective collaborations with academic schools and departments.

  • Work closely with ICT, Teaching and Learning, Research, Innovation, and Student Services teams.

  • Develop partnerships with relevant external organisations and technology partners.

  • Work effectively across professional and disciplinary boundaries.

Technology and Learning Spaces Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and facilitate the adoption of appropriate emerging technologies, software, and digital tools.

  • Ensure effective utilisation and scheduling of the Learning Commons, AI, Maker, and Media spaces.

  • Promote accessibility, safety, security, and appropriate maintenance of learning and innovation spaces and equipment.

  • Support the effective integration of technology into Library learning and innovation services.

Ethical and Responsible Technology Use

  • Promote ethical and responsible use of technology.

  • Embed academic integrity and ethical AI practices across learning programmes and services.

  • Promote awareness of intellectual property, privacy, digital citizenship, and responsible technology use.

  • Ensure that emerging technologies are introduced and used in ways that support responsible learning and research.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor the impact and user experience of Learning Commons and innovation services.

  • Collect and analyse usage data, participation information, user feedback, and learning outcomes.

  • Use evidence to evaluate services and inform continuous improvement.

  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities in academic libraries, AI, digital scholarship, innovation, and technology-enabled learning.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen the University's Library as a dynamic learning, innovation, and digital creativity ecosystem.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science, Information Science, Educational Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Learning, Innovation, or a related discipline.

  • Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or coordinating role within an academic library setting.

  • Demonstrated experience working in an academic library, learning commons, digital learning, innovation, makerspace, or comparable learning environment.

  • Demonstrable competence in AI literacy, digital technologies, and emerging learning technologies.

  • Working knowledge of productivity software, library systems, research and reference-management tools, data-analysis applications, open-source technologies, and relevant digital media tools.

  • Experience designing and delivering training, workshops, and learner-support programmes.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across professional and disciplinary boundaries.

  • Knowledge of emerging trends in academic libraries, AI, digital scholarship, innovation, and technology-enabled learning.
