What you'll be stepping into

The Manager – Data Governance will be responsible for establishing strategies, frameworks, and roadmaps for data governance and data privacy. The core responsibility of the role is to execute related activities, ensure adherence to governance processes, and manage information, data practices, and data assets in accordance with established standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.

The role will also involve coordinating requests and requirements from regulatory and governance bodies, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, managing data-related risks, and effectively communicating with stakeholders on matters relating to data governance and data privacy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Support Data Quality Initiatives: Play a key role in advancing DFCU’s data quality agenda by ensuring that data is accurate, timely, complete, and fit for purpose.

  • Drive Data Maturity: Support DFCU’s journey towards achieving a data maturity level of 5, where data-driven insights inform decision-making across the organization.

  • Ensure Compliance Oversight: Ensure adherence to applicable data governance, data privacy, and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor and Investigate: Identify potential breaches of data governance and privacy requirements and lead or coordinate the necessary investigations.

  • Manage Data-Related Risks: Identify emerging data-related risks and collaborate with relevant teams to monitor, manage, and mitigate them.

  • Oversee Data Lifecycle Management: Oversee the complete data lifecycle, from data entry through to deletion, ensuring a clear understanding of data flows, system interactions, and access rights. As part of data privacy obligations, conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), particularly in relation to third-party vendors.

  • Monitor Data Quality: Establish and regularly monitor critical data quality elements while engaging business units to ensure compliance and promote continuous improvement.

  • Build Organizational Capacity: Lead data training and awareness initiatives to strengthen organization-wide competency and awareness in effective data management.

  • Implement Policies and Standards: Operationalize data governance and data privacy policies, frameworks, and standards across the Bank.

  • Manage Data Assets: Oversee the Bank’s data assets and appoint, guide, and support data stewards to ensure that departmental data is properly governed, managed, and accessible.

  • Promote a Data-Driven Culture: Champion initiatives that promote and embed a strong data-driven culture throughout the Bank.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A Bachelor of Science or Master’s Degree in any Business-related course.

  • Additional qualifications, certifications, or professional memberships relevant to Data Governance are an added advantage.

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in Audit, Governance, Compliance, or Legal departments within a major financial institution.

  • Experience and understanding of risk management principles and terminology within relevant areas of financial services, such as banking, investment asset management, or insurance, including an understanding of related products, services, and basic business processes.

  • 1–2 years of experience implementing data privacy within an organization.

  • Knowledge of financial products and their modelling and calibration in both risk-neutral and real-world environments across a wide range of products.

  • Strong creativity and resourcefulness in problem-solving.

  • Programming skills in languages such as Python/R, SQL, or Visual Basic. Knowledge of other programming languages is an added advantage.
