SAO U is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated and experienced Programme Officer – Education to support the implementation of education, child protection, disability inclusion and community-based programmes in Kaberamaido.
Job Purpose
The Programme Officer – Education will support the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of education-related activities in schools and communities. The role will promote children’s rights, education, child protection and disability inclusion, while strengthening community structures and supporting evidence-based programme delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programme Implementation
Support planning and implementation of education activities in line with SAO U strategies and donor requirements.
Coordinate programme activities with schools, communities and relevant stakeholders.
2. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
Collect, verify and submit enrolment data from target ECD centres and primary schools.
Conduct routine monitoring and ensure accurate data collection, analysis and documentation.
Maintain updated attendance records, beneficiary databases, field records and activity reports.
Contribute to programme reports, work plans and evidence-based decision-making.
3. Community & Stakeholder Engagement
Mobilise and sensitise parents, communities, School Management Committees (SMCs), Centre Management Committees (CMCs) and other community structures.
Build effective relationships with teachers, head teachers, ECD caregivers, district education officials and partner organisations.
4. Capacity Building
Strengthen the capacity of child protection committees, SMCs, CMCs, ECD caregivers and children's club patrons.
Support mentorship programmes for community structures in collaboration with the Programme Area Coordinator.
5. Children’s Clubs & Inclusion
Lead the formation and strengthening of children's clubs in target schools.
Promote meaningful participation and inclusion of children with disabilities.
Train teachers, club patrons and child leaders in child rights, safeguarding, life skills and participatory approaches.
6. Resource Management
Ensure responsible use and accountability of programme materials and activity funds.
Support schools and community structures to maintain proper accountability records.
7. Child Protection & Safeguarding
Promote and uphold SAO U's child protection and safeguarding standards.
Identify and promptly report child protection concerns through established referral and reporting mechanisms.
Support spiritual nurture and holistic child development in line with SAO U's Christian mission.
Qualifications & Experience
An Honours Bachelor's degree in Education, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Rural Development or a related field.
At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in education programming, community development, child protection or related development work.
Experience working with schools, community structures and local government authorities.
Experience in data collection, monitoring and evaluation, data management and programme documentation.
Additional training in Child Protection, Disability Inclusion or Project Management is an added advantage.
Fluency in Kumam.
A valid motorcycle riding permit and ability to ride a motorcycle.
Good knowledge of computer applications and strong data management, analysis and reporting skills.
Practical understanding of child rights, child protection systems and referral pathways.
Ability to develop quality work plans, budgets and programme reports.
Strong communication, coordination and community engagement skills.
