JOB DESCRIPTION

The Project Officer will coordinate and support the implementation of project activities at district level, ensuring effective field operations, quality service delivery, stakeholder engagement, and achievement of project objectives. The role will involve close supervision of Peer Mentors and Health Workers, coordination of district activities, community engagement, and collaboration with relevant project stakeholders and local structures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. District Project Coordination

  • Coordinate the implementation of project activities within the assigned district in line with approved project plans and objectives.

  • Support the planning, scheduling, and execution of field activities to ensure timely and effective delivery.

  • Work closely with project teams, district structures, community stakeholders, and other relevant partners to facilitate smooth implementation.

  • Monitor progress of district activities and identify operational challenges requiring timely action.

  • Support effective coordination between field teams and project management.

  1. Supervision of Peer Mentors and Health Workers

  • Provide day-to-day supervision and technical support to Peer Mentors and Health Workers.

  • Guide field teams in implementing assigned activities and maintaining quality standards.

  • Monitor attendance, performance, field coverage, and delivery of planned activities.

  • Identify capacity gaps and support coaching, mentorship, and continuous improvement of field personnel.

  • Ensure Peer Mentors and Health Workers maintain appropriate engagement with beneficiaries and communities.

  1. Stakeholder Engagement and Community Coordination

  • Engage project stakeholders at district and community levels to strengthen project implementation.

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with relevant district authorities, community leaders, health workers, service providers, and other project stakeholders.

  • Support community mobilisation, sensitisation, and participation in project activities.

  • Represent the project in relevant district-level meetings, consultations, and coordination forums as assigned.

  • Promote collaboration and information sharing among stakeholders involved in project implementation.

  1. Programme Implementation and Field Support

  • Participate in the implementation of youth and community-focused interventions within the assigned district.

  • Support activities related to sexual and reproductive health, youth programming, nutrition, mental health, livelihoods, or other programme areas relevant to the project.

  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor implementation and provide practical support to field teams.

  • Ensure project activities are implemented in accordance with approved plans and agreed approaches.

  • Document implementation challenges, emerging needs, lessons learned, and successes for management attention.

  1. Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation

  • Monitor progress of district-level activities against agreed plans and targets.

  • Maintain accurate records of project activities, field engagements, stakeholder interactions, and team performance.

  • Contribute to the preparation of routine project updates and field reports.

  • Provide timely information to project management on implementation progress, challenges, and emerging opportunities.

  • Support the collection and documentation of relevant programme information from field activities.

  1. Quality and Accountability

  • Promote quality, professionalism, accountability, and effective use of project resources during field implementation.

  • Ensure field activities are conducted responsibly and in accordance with project expectations.

  • Follow up on identified implementation gaps and support corrective actions where required.

  • Maintain professional relationships with beneficiaries, communities, project teams, and stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Community Development, Development Studies, Education, or a related field.

  • At least three years of relevant field-programme experience.

  • Practical experience working in youth, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), nutrition, mental health, livelihoods, or community-based programmes.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate should have strong field-programme experience, practical knowledge of community-based programming, and the ability to coordinate activities while effectively supervising Peer Mentors and Health Workers. The candidate should be comfortable working directly with communities and stakeholders and should demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, accountability, and commitment to effective project delivery.
