Job Overview
The R&D Technician supports the implementation, monitoring, and data collection of research and development trials across hatchery, nursery, grow-out. The role assists with trial execution, fish sampling, data recording, and routine monitoring to ensure trials are conducted according to approved protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Support implementation, and monitoring of R&D trials according to approved protocols.
Ensure treatments are applied correctly and trial protocols are followed.
Monitor trials and report deviations, equipment failures, or operational issues.
Data Collection & Reporting
Collect, record, and verify trial data accurately and on time.
Assist with fish sampling, weighing, grading, and performance assessments.
Maintain organized trial records and support preparation of trial reports.
Ensure data is complete, accurate, and traceable.
Fish Health, Welfare & Water Quality
Monitor fish health, behavior, mortality, and welfare during trials.
Collect mortality data and report unusual observations promptly.
Support routine water quality monitoring and environmental data collection.
Assist with fish health assessments and sample collection as required.
Equipment Management
Support operation, inspection, and maintenance of trial equipment, including automatic feeders and monitoring devices.
Prepare trial materials, equipment, and supplies before trial commencement.
Report equipment damage, shortages, or maintenance requirements.
Biosecurity, Housekeeping & Safety
Follow all biosecurity procedures and ensure trial activities do not compromise biosecurity.
Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping of work areas, equipment, boats, cages, etc.
Comply with health and safety procedures and use required PPE.
Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries & Aquaculture, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Biology, Zoology, or a related field.
Experience in aquaculture operations, research activities, or laboratory work is an added advantage.
