What you'll be stepping into
The Warehouse Team Leader will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of warehouse operations, including the receipt, storage, and dispatch of trucks, spare parts, and other related products.
The ideal candidate will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and an effective leader with strong knowledge of warehouse management principles, inventory control, and logistics. The role is critical to ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of materials in support of the after-sales service, workshop, and sales departments, ultimately contributing to the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Warehouse Operations
Plan, coordinate, and monitor the efficient receipt, storage, and dispatch of all goods, ensuring accuracy and timely execution.
Optimise warehouse layout and space utilisation to maximise efficiency and productivity.
Develop and implement effective warehouse policies, procedures, and operational guidelines to ensure smooth workflows and compliance with company standards.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, orderliness, and safety within the warehouse.
Oversee the maintenance and effective use of warehouse vehicles, machinery, and equipment, including forklifts.
2. Inventory Management
Maintain accurate inventory records through systematic and effective stock-control practices.
Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts, reconciling physical stock counts with records in the automated system.
Implement and effectively utilise Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to track inventory, generate reports, and improve overall warehouse operations.
Analyse inventory and operational data to identify trends, forecast future capacity requirements, and minimise the risk of stock-outs or overstocking.
3. Logistics and Supply Chain
Liaise with internal departments, including Sales, Workshop, and Procurement, to ensure material requirements are met and services are delivered to the highest standards.
Coordinate with suppliers and transport companies to schedule inbound and outbound shipments and resolve logistics-related issues.
Ensure all documentation relating to goods received and goods dispatched is accurate, complete, and up to date.
4. Team Leadership and Management
Lead, supervise, and mentor warehouse staff by providing guidance, training, and effective performance management.
Foster a positive and collaborative working environment that promotes teamwork, effective communication, and employee engagement.
Conduct staff performance evaluations and provide coaching and support to improve team productivity and accuracy.
5. Health, Safety and Security
Develop, implement, and enforce strict warehouse safety protocols and procedures in compliance with applicable health and safety regulations in Uganda.
Conduct risk assessments and ensure hazardous materials are stored and handled in accordance with applicable requirements.
Establish and maintain high standards of security for the warehouse, equipment, and stock.
6. Performance Monitoring
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for warehouse operations, including order fulfilment rates, inventory accuracy, and on-time delivery.
Prepare and submit regular reports to senior management covering warehouse activities and performance.
Continuously review warehouse operations to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost reduction.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of five (5) years’ proven experience as a Warehouse Team Leader or in a similar supervisory role, preferably within the automotive, machinery, or heavy equipment industry.
Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory management principles, and logistics processes.
Proficiency in using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and other relevant software.
Excellent leadership, people-management, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong analytical and organisational skills, with keen attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations in Uganda.
