Job Overview

Jibu is seeking a Water Treatment System Technician to provide technical support across its franchise network in Uganda while helping maintain high standards of water treatment, production quality, safety, and operational performance.

The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting water treatment systems and related facility equipment. The role will also support quality audits, regulatory compliance, preventive maintenance, operator training, and continuous improvement of quality control processes.

This is a hands-on position requiring technical competence, attention to detail, persistence, adaptability, and the ability to respond effectively to day-to-day operational challenges.

The Water Treatment System Technician will contribute to Jibu's volume, expansion, profitability, cost-saving, revenue, and impact objectives. The role requires an ownership mindset, practical problem-solving, and alignment with Jibu's organizational culture and mission.

Key Internal and External Interfaces

The role will interact with:

  • Jibu franchisees and staff

  • Suppliers

  • Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS)

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Support and System Maintenance

  • Respond promptly and comprehensively to technical service requests from Jibu franchises.

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot water treatment systems.

  • Support the up-fitting and maintenance of facilities that house water treatment systems.

  • Develop and coordinate preventive maintenance activities across Jibu franchises in Uganda.

  • Monitor implementation of planned maintenance programs and ensure maintenance activities are completed effectively.

2. Quality Control and Regulatory Compliance

  • Implement and maintain operational and quality control processes at franchise locations.

  • Ensure local operators receive the necessary training on operational and quality requirements.

  • Conduct regular franchise visits and quality audits to ensure compliance with Jibu quality standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Support JibuCo laboratory activities, including sample collection, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.

  • Review and analyze the quality status of franchises regularly.

  • Coordinate implementation of the Jibu Quality Breach Policy where required.

3. Corrective and Preventive Actions

  • Initiate root cause analysis for identified non-conformities.

  • Coordinate and complete appropriate corrective and preventive actions.

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in quality control processes, procedures, and standards.

  • Provide recommendations for updating or developing quality control processes and documentation.

4. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of quality audit programs conducted at franchise locations.

  • Ensure proper documentation of Jibu quality control processes, procedures, and standards.

  • Track monthly performance targets and use agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor results.

  • Prepare and maintain relevant technical and quality documentation.

5. Franchise Support

  • Provide hands-on technical assistance to franchisees and their teams.

  • Support franchisees in managing and supervising water treatment system operators.

  • Help franchise teams understand and consistently apply required quality and operational standards.

Supervision and Management Responsibilities

Supervision Received:
The Water Treatment System Technician works with a high degree of autonomy and reports directly to the Head of Production & Quality.

Management Responsibility:
The position supports franchisees in managing their operator teams.

Direct Reports:
None.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience.

  • Experience in water engineering, water production, or a related technical field.

  • Experience applying quality assurance measures.

  • At least 1 year of experience supervising or leading small teams.

Preferred Experience

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in water engineering or water production.

  • Practical experience in quality assurance and quality control.

  • Experience working with or dealing with regulatory bodies.

  • Experience engaging with the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS).

  • Additional relevant technical experience in water treatment systems and maintenance.

What the Role Involves

The Water Treatment System Technician will combine technical maintenance, quality assurance, franchise support, regulatory compliance, documentation, and preventive maintenance. The successful candidate should therefore be comfortable working both independently and directly with franchise teams in different locations.
