Role overview
What you'll be stepping into
Objective: To supervise and coordinate yard operations, ensuring efficient container handling, proper yard organization, safety compliance, and timely movement of cargo within the ICD facility.
Key Responsibility:
Supervise daily yard operations, including container receiving, stacking, storage, and dispatch.
Coordinate movement of containers using yard equipment and ensure proper allocation of yard space.
Ensure accurate recording and tracking of container locations and movements.
Monitor loading, offloading, and transfer activities to ensure efficiency and safety.
Assign duties and supervise yard operators, equipment operators, and support staff.
Conduct regular yard inspections to ensure proper housekeeping, safety, and compliance with operational procedures.
Verify container conditions and report damages, discrepancies, or operational issues.
Coordinate with Operations, Transport, Customs, and Customer Service teams to facilitate smooth cargo flow.
Prepare daily operational reports on container movements, yard activities, and incidents.
Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety standards, and operational procedures.
Monitor utilization and proper handling of yard equipment.
Perform any other duties assigned by the General Manager
Authority & Independence: The Yard Supervisor has full authority delegated by the General Manager as per the requirements, duties and responsibility of the job
Work Conditions
Primarily based in the yard environment with exposure to outdoor conditions.
May require shift work, weekends, and extended working hours depending on operational requirements.
Must comply with all safety requirements, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical & Mental Efforts
Must be mentally stable to contain stress and pressure.
Must be of a sound mind.
Good visibility since most times work will be done on computers.
Sensory stability due to much concentration required for the job.
Education Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Business Administration, or related field.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in yard operations, logistics, warehousing, shipping, or ICD operations.
Experience in container terminal operations is an added advantage.
Skills & Competences
Knowledge of container yard operations and logistics processes.
