What this programme is offering
Postgraduate qualifications are increasingly important for entering professional careers, progressing in the workplace, and contributing to innovation, and public life. Yet for many talented students, the cost of a master’s degree remains a significant barrier.
Carnegie Masters Grants aim to reduce that barrier by providing financial support for eligible students taking up a full‑time or part‑time taught master’s programme at any Scottish higher education institution.
The scheme is designed for students who:
Are ordinarily resident in Scotland
Live in low‑income households
Have applied for, or secured, a place on an eligible taught master’s course beginning in 2026/27
How to apply
Applications open on 1 May 2026 and must be submitted directly to CEF by students. Applicants will be asked to provide information about their background, circumstances, and chosen course.
Universities across Scotland have been invited to share information about the scheme with prospective students, advisers, and widening participation teams.
By supporting access to postgraduate study, the Carnegie Education Fund is advancing its commitment to embed equity, strengthen participation, and support student success across Scotland.
