What this programme is offering
Young leaders and aspiring foreign policy professionals in Uganda now have an opportunity to deepen their understanding of international relations through. Applications are officially open for the spring 2026 cohort, offering university students and recent graduates a unique platform to explore foreign policy, leadership, and the impact of global events on Uganda.
The program is designed for individuals aged between 22 and 27 who have a strong interest in foreign affairs, diplomacy, international relations, governance, and leadership. Beginning on July 1, 2026, participants will engage in a series of interactive learning sessions aimed at building their knowledge of foreign policy and strengthening their leadership potential.
Empowering Uganda’s Next Generation of Foreign Policy Leaders
The Early Careers Foreign Policy Leadership Program seeks to equip emerging professionals with practical insights into foreign policy and international engagement. Through expert-led discussions and interactive sessions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how global developments influence Uganda’s domestic and international interests.

Learn the fundamentals of foreign policy and diplomacy.
Explore contemporary international issues affecting Uganda.
Understand the dynamics of U.S.–Uganda relations.
Develop leadership and critical-thinking skills.

As global events continue to shape economic, political, and social outcomes across nations, programs such as FPELP play a vital role in preparing future leaders to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.
Program Schedule
The four-week program will be conducted through weekly sessions scheduled every Wednesday morning throughout July 2026.
The sessions will take place on the following dates:
Wednesday, July 1, 2026: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EAT
Wednesday, July 8, 2026: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EAT
Wednesday, July 15, 2026: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EAT
Wednesday, July 22, 2026: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EAT
Participants are expected to attend all sessions and complete any assignments associated with the program
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Early Careers Foreign Policy Leadership Program 2026, applicants should meet the following criteria:
Be between 22 and 27 years of age.
Be a university student or recent graduate.
Demonstrate a strong interest in foreign policy, international relations, or leadership.
Be available to attend all four sessions.
Be willing to complete program assignments and activities.
Applicants will also be required to provide information regarding their educational background, leadership experience, and perspectives on foreign policy.
Application Process
As part of the application process, candidates will be asked to complete an online application form that includes several short-answer questions. These questions are designed to assess applicants’ understanding of foreign policy issues, leadership experiences, and motivation for joining the program.
Applicants will be required to provide:
Personal information and contact details.
Educational background and graduation information.
Leadership experience and achievements.
A brief explanation of foreign policy in their own words.
Knowledge of a recent issue in U.S.–Uganda relations.
A statement explaining why they wish to join the program.
Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for public affairs, international engagement, and leadership development.
Important Information for Participants
Applicants should note that they will be responsible for arranging their own transportation to attend the program sessions.
In addition, all participants must carry a valid identification document to gain access to the American Center located on Ggaba Road at Embassy Plaza.
Before submitting their applications, candidates must also confirm that all information provided is accurate and truthful.
