What this programme is offering
The EMBL Sabbatical Visitor Fellowship offers established independent scientists and technical experts an opportunity to spend 3–6 months at EMBL working with researchers, sharing expertise, developing new scientific collaborations, and exploring future joint research.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Hold an existing position at a research institution and receive a salary from their home institution.
Be able to maintain their position before and after the fellowship.
Obtain approval from their home institution.
Commit significant time to working onsite at EMBL.
Identify and establish contact with at least one EMBL Group or Team Leader (GTL) who will serve as the primary host.
What the Fellowship Offers
Fellows can:
Exchange scientific knowledge and expertise with EMBL researchers.
Learn new technologies, methodologies, and approaches.
Participate in seminars, retreats, networking activities, and scientific events.
Develop new research collaborations and future joint projects.
Receive relocation support and access to selected EMBL and local scientific activities.
Important: The fellowship does not specify a separate fixed salary or stipend. Visitors are expected to continue receiving their salary from their home institution.
Application
The application must be submitted by the EMBL hosting Group or Team Leader. Applicants should therefore identify a suitable EMBL host and discuss their proposed visit before applying.
The application should explain:
Your scientific background and expertise.
What knowledge or skills you can contribute to EMBL.
The EMBL researchers or groups you wish to collaborate with.
What expertise, technologies, or methodologies you hope to learn.
How both you and EMBL would benefit from the exchange.
Potential opportunities for future collaboration.
