About the opportunity
What this programme is offering
The competition is a flagship continental initiative designed to strengthen Africa’s leadership in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Co-convened by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and Ele-vate AI Africa, the programme brings together policymakers, innovators, investors, researchers, and industry leaders to support youth-driven technological advancement and inclusive economic development.
For the 2026 edition, the competition will be hosted by the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), reinforcing Egypt’s growing reputation as one of Africa’s leading digital transformation and innovation hubs.
Building on a Strong Legacy of Innovation
The Presidential African Youth in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Competition has rapidly emerged as one of the continent’s most influential platforms for young innovators.
The initiative builds on the success of previous editions, including the 2025 Final Showcase held in South Africa in partnership with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) and presented alongside the G20 AI in Africa Conference.
Participation has expanded significantly over the years:
1,008 AI and robotics submissions were received in 2024.
3,257 submissions were received from innovators across Africa in 2025.
The competition is open to participants from all 55 African Union Member States.
The continued growth reflects increasing interest among African youth in developing technology-driven solutions to address socioeconomic challenges and accelerate sustainable development.
