Applications are now open for the 2026 UNESCO/CJID Storytelling Fellowship for Environmental Journalists. The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), in partnership with UNESCO Global Media Defence Fund, is inviting applications for a six-month investigative storytelling fellowship.
The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), in partnership with the UNESCO Global Media Defence Fund (GMDF), invites environmental journalists to apply for a six-month storytelling fellowship. This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of journalists to conduct investigative reporting on cases of violence against environmental reporters, while supporting the production, publication, and dissemination of these stories in line with international standards.
Objective
Provide training and mentorship for journalists who report attacks against environmental journalists.
Strengthen capacity for investigative reporting.
Produce and publish stories on violence against environmental reporters.
Disseminate work in line with international standards.
Requirements
Professional journalists based in:
Ghana
Liberia
Nigeria
Sierra Leone
The Gambia
Freelance/independent journalists
Female journalists are strongly encouraged to apply
Fellowship Focus
The fellowship supports environmental journalists investigating violence and threats against environmental reporters across West Africa.
