What this programme is offering
The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a competitive scholarship opportunity for academically excellent international students who wish to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.
For the 2027/28 academic year, selected students can receive between €3,000 and €22,000 for one year to help compensate for study-related costs.

For eligible two-year master's programmes, students may receive an additional UTS award for the second year if they satisfy the required academic progress conditions.
Important: What the Scholarship Covers
The UTS is intended as compensation for study-related costs. The scholarship is paid to the student, who decides how to use the funds.
Tuition fees are not paid directly by the University of Twente through this scholarship.
Therefore, applicants should make sure they have a financial plan for tuition and other expenses.
Second-Year Funding for Two-Year Programmes
Students enrolled in a two-year master's programme may be considered for an additional scholarship of an amount equal to their first-year UTS award.
However, continuation into the second year is conditional on satisfactory academic progress.
To qualify, students must have:
Achieved an average grade of 7.0/10 or higher by the end of the third quartile of the first year.
Obtained at least 50% of the European Credits (EC) by the end of the third quartile of the first year.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
Apply for an eligible master's programme at the University of Twente.
Be provisionally or fully admitted to a qualifying UT master's programme starting in September 2027.
Have a University of Twente student number.
Not have previously graduated from a University of Twente undergraduate or graduate programme.
Meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa for the Netherlands, where applicable.
Meet the English-language requirements:
IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, including
6.0 in speaking, or the stated equivalent TOEFL requirements.
Not be eligible for a Dutch study loan.
Demonstrate outstanding academic performance.
Academic Excellence Requirement
The University of Twente Scholarship is highly competitive.
Applicants are expected to belong approximately to the top 5–10% of their graduating class at their home university.
Academic excellence is therefore an important factor in the selection process.
Separate Scholarship Application
A key point applicants should understand is that admission to the University of Twente and application for the scholarship are separate procedures.
You must first apply for your chosen master's programme and obtain a conditional or full admission letter before applying for the UTS.
The university notes that receiving an admission decision may take up to eight weeks after completing the programme application.

Applicants should begin the master's admission process well in advance because they need a UT student number and admission decision before submitting the scholarship application.
How to Apply
Step 1: Choose a Master's Programme
Select an eligible master's programme at the University of Twente for the September 2027 intake.
Step 2: Apply for Admission
Submit your application for the master's programme through the University's admission process.
Step 3: Receive Your Student Number
Once you have submitted your programme application, you will receive a University of Twente student number.
Step 4: Receive Your Admission Decision
You must receive a conditional or full admission letter before applying for the scholarship.
Step 5: Apply for the UTS
Use your UT student number to submit the separate University of Twente Scholarship application.
Step 6: Submit Before the Deadline
Ensure that your scholarship application is completed by 1 April 2027.
