What you'll be stepping into
To patrol designated railway track sections on a scheduled basis to ensure the safe movement of trains by identifying, reporting, and where possible, responding to defects, hazards, and unauthorized activities affecting railway infrastructure.
PATROL MAN GRADE: RG8 REPORTS TO: Assistant Permanent Way Inspector
NUMBER OF VACANCIES: Fifty Two (52)
1. Patrol assigned sections of railway track according to established schedules and procedures. 2. Inspect rails, sleepers, fastenings, ballast, drainage systems, bridges, culverts, and level crossings for defects.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES A. Education
• Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent.
• Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) is an added advantage.
• Certificate in Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering, Building Technology, or a related field is an added advantage. B. Experience
• Experience in railway track maintenance is an added advantage. C. Working Conditions
• Extensive walking (often 10–20 km or more per shift) along railway lines.
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Exposure to moving trains and construction equipment.
• Shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• Requirement to respond to emergencies at short notice.
