Role overview
What you'll be stepping into
Reporting to the Accountant, the Accounts Assistant will support the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, performing reconciliations and supporting timely financial reporting while ensuring compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
Prepare and post journal entries.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
Support monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
Maintain accurate and organised accounting records.
Reconciliations & Internal Controls
Perform bank, cash, supplier and customer reconciliations.
Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances.
Support implementation and compliance with internal financial controls.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
Review and process supplier invoices and payments.
Monitor receivables and support debt collection activities.
Maintain accurate payables and receivables ageing analysis.
Statutory Compliance
Assist with statutory payments and returns, including PAYE, VAT, NSSF, NHIF and Withholding Tax.
Support tax computations and other compliance requirements.
Maintain statutory records and supporting documentation.
Budgeting & Cost Control
Support budget preparation and monitoring.
Track expenditure against approved budgets.
Identify variances and support corrective action.
Audit & Risk Management
Prepare audit schedules and documentation.
Support internal and external audits and respond to audit queries.
Assist in identifying and mitigating financial and operational risks.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
At least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
Progress toward CPA or ACCA is an added advantage.
