Role overview
What you'll be stepping into
1. Laboratory Testing
Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
Analyze patient samples accurately and report results within the agreed turnaround times.
Operate laboratory analyzers and diagnostic equipment efficiently.Verify test results and escalate abnormal or critical findings promptly.
2. Sample Collection and Handling
Collect blood and other patient specimens using appropriate techniques.
Ensure proper labeling, handling, transportation, and storage of specimens.
Reject unsuitable specimens in line with laboratory protocols and communicate with the requesting department.
3. Quality Assurance
Participate in Internal Quality Control and External Quality Assessment programs.
Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and records.
Ensure compliance with laboratory quality management systems and accreditation standards.
Participate in audits and implement corrective actions where required.
4. Equipment Management
Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment.
Report equipment malfunctions promptly and coordinate servicing.
5. Inventory Management
Monitor laboratory reagent and consumable stock levels.
Request replenishment before stock-outs occur.
Ensure proper storage of reagents and adherence to expiry date management.
6. Infection Prevention and Safety
Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) policies.
Maintain biosafety and waste disposal standards.
Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
Report laboratory incidents, spills, and occupational exposures promptly.
7. Patient Care and Customer Service
Provide courteous and professional service to patients and medical teams.
Explain specimen collection procedures to patients where necessary.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology/science from a recognized institution.
Must have a registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a busy hospital laboratory (preferred)
