5. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES a. Prepare and deliver high-quality lectures, seminars and practical sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate law students. b. Lead the design, review and continuous improvement of course content to ensure alignment with contemporary legal developments, accreditation requirements and industry practice. c. Lead moot court exercises, legal clinics and practical legal training in collaboration with courts, chambers and relevant institutions. d. Oversee the development, administration and moderation of examinations, coursework and other student assessment methods in accordance with University policies. e. Supervise postgraduate research, including LLM dissertations and, where applicable, PhD research in law. f. Lead high-quality legal, socio-legal and interdisciplinary research addressing national, regional and global legal and policy priorities. g. Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed law journals and author or edit scholarly books, book chapters and conference proceedings. h. Lead multidisciplinary research projects, consultancies and collaborative research initiatives. i. Mentor junior and mid-career academic staff and postgraduate students in teaching, research, publication, grant writing and professional development. j. Lead curriculum development, programme review, accreditation and quality assurance activities within the Department and Faculty. k. Champion the integration of digital technologies, case-based learning and innovative teaching approaches into legal education. l. Identify funding opportunities, lead the preparation of competitive research grant proposals and secure external research funding. m. Build and strengthen collaborative partnerships with courts, law firms, government agencies, professional bodies, development partners and international universities. n. Serve on departmental, Faculty and University committees and contribute to academic planning and policy implementation. o. Provide specialist legal expertise through consultancy, public lectures, legal aid initiatives and continuing legal education programmes. p. Lead community legal outreach programmes, access-to-justice initiatives and public legal education activities organised by the University. q. Uphold and promote the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and academic integrity. r. Prepare periodic academic, research and administrative reports as required. s. Perform any other duties assigned by the University Management. 6. CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION Applicants must: a. Hold an earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Law or a relevant legal discipline from a recognised university. b. Demonstrate sustained excellence in university teaching, legal research, postgraduate supervision and academic leadership. c. Possess a strong and sustained record of scholarly publication, curriculum development and academic leadership. 6.1 Academic Qualifications and Experience a. An earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Law or a relevant legal discipline from a recognised university. b. A Bachelor of Laws (LLB Honours) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice or equivalent professional legal training from a recognised institution. c. Enrolment as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda or an equivalent recognised professional legal body will be an added advantage. d. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive university teaching, research and academic leadership experience, including at least three (3) years at the rank of Senior Lecturer or equivalent in a recognised higher education institution. e. Demonstrated and sustained excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate legal teaching. f. A demonstrated record of at least five ( 5) peer-reviewed publications, or an equivalent combination of journal articles, book chapters and authored/edited books, in reputable, indexed outlets. g. Successfully supervised at least two (2) postgraduate students to completion, including at LLM level, with evidence of PhD co-supervision an added advantage. 6.2 Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Development a. Demonstrated leadership in undergraduate and postgraduate legal teaching. b. Evidence of leading the development, review and implementation of law curricula aligned with regulatory and accreditation standards. c. Demonstrated use and promotion of innovative, learner-centred and technology-enhanced teaching approaches, including case-based and clinical methods. d. Experience in developing and moderating examinations and other student assessments. e. Leadership in programme review, quality assurance and accreditation activities. 6.3 Legal Practice and Professional Engagement a. Evidence of sustained engagement in legal practice, legal aid work, or professional legal service will be an added advantage. b. Demonstrated experience leading moot court, legal clinic or practical legal training activities. c. Commitment to ethical legal practice, access to justice and professional integrity. d. Experience championing case-based, clinical or simulation-based legal education. e. Demonstrated contribution to strengthening legal education, law reform or access to justice. 6.4 Research and Scholarly Activity a. Demonstrated and sustained record of quality research and scholarly publication in law or related disciplines. b. Experience leading collaborative and multidisciplinary research. c. Evidence of presenting research findings at national and international conferences, including as an invited speaker. d. Experience mentoring staff and postgraduate students in research methodologies and academic writing. e. Participation in editorial work, peer review or professional scholarly activities. 7.5 Postgraduate Supervision a. Demonstrated experience supervising postgraduate research projects and dissertations to completion. b. Evidence of mentoring postgraduate students in research design, proposal development and legal writing. c. Commitment to timely completion and quality supervision of postgraduate students, including at PhD level where applicable. 6.6 Research Grants and Resource Mobilisation a. Demonstrated experience in preparing and securing competitive research grants. b. Leadership or participation in externally funded research projects. c. Demonstrated ability to identify funding opportunities and mobilise research resources. d. Experience in grant management, reporting and accountability. 6.7 Academic Leadership and Administration a. Demonstrated ability to mentor junior and mid-career academic staff. b. Demonstrated academic leadership, such as heading a department, programme or committee. c. Experience serving on departmental, Faculty or University committees, boards and councils. d. Demonstrated organisational, leadership and decision-making skills. 6.8 Partnerships and Community Engagement a. Experience building and sustaining collaborations with courts, law firms, government agencies, research organisations and professional bodies. b. Leadership in legal aid clinics, public legal education and access-to-justice initiatives. c. Evidence of consultancy, professional service or advisory roles. d. Demonstrated commitment to strengthening partnerships that support legal education and research. 6.9 Professional Registration a. Enrolment as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda, or an equivalent recognised professional legal body, will be an added advantage. b. Active membership in the Uganda Law Society or other relevant national and international professional associations. c. Evidence of continuing professional development and good professional standing. 6.10 Personal Attributes a. Proven integrity, professionalism and ethical conduct. b. REMUNERATION An attractive remuneration package in accordance with King Ceasor University's terms and conditions of service. 8. TENURE The Associate Professor -- Law shall hold office in accordance with the University's terms and conditions of service and subject to satisfactory performance. 9.
