What you'll be stepping into
The Team Leader will provide effective leadership to a shift-based packaging team, ensuring that the production plan is delivered safely, efficiently, and within approved cost parameters.
The role is responsible for coordinating people, processes, equipment, and resources during the shift while maintaining high standards of safety, product quality, production efficiency, housekeeping, employee development, and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will play an important role in driving operational excellence and ensuring that packaging operations consistently meet business and customer requirements.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Safety, Health and Environmental Management
Promote and maintain a safe and healthy working environment across the shift.
Ensure compliance with company safety, health, environmental, and operational procedures.
Adhere to applicable workplace health and safety legislation and company standards.
Monitor compliance with safety requirements and promptly address unsafe practices or conditions.
Maintain high standards of workplace housekeeping and cleanliness.
Encourage a strong safety culture by leading by example and ensuring team members understand their safety responsibilities.
Support incident prevention, reporting, investigation, and implementation of corrective actions where required.
2. Production Performance and Process Optimisation
Lead the shift team in delivering the approved production plan safely, efficiently, and within agreed costs.
Translate the production plan into clear shift objectives, priorities, and activities.
Monitor production performance throughout the shift and take timely corrective action when targets are at risk.
Manage shift operations in accordance with VPO (Value-Added Production Operations) tools, systems, and principles.
Coordinate production activities to maximise equipment availability, productivity, and overall line efficiency.
Coordinate scheduled maintenance activities and support autonomous maintenance practices.
Identify production losses, process inefficiencies, downtime, and other operational constraints and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
Monitor production processes and ensure that operating standards and procedures are consistently followed.
Work closely with maintenance and other relevant departments to resolve equipment and production-related challenges.
Ensure products are manufactured and packaged according to required quality and operational standards.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing waste, improving efficiency, and increasing productivity.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
3. Team Leadership and Performance Management
Provide effective leadership, direction, and support to shift team members.
Build a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
Facilitate effective team dynamics and encourage open communication.
Set clear performance expectations and monitor individual and team performance.
Implement relevant performance management and OPR (Organisational Performance Review) processes.
Conduct effective shift communication and ensure important operational information is shared with team members.
Recognise good performance and address performance gaps fairly and promptly.
Encourage employees to identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
Promote teamwork, accountability, discipline, and ownership across the shift.
4. Administration and Financial Management
Ensure that all required administrative systems, records, and procedures are accurately maintained.
Administer applicable conditions of employment for team members in line with company policies.
Contribute to the preparation, control, and effective use of departmental budgets.
Monitor financial performance and ensure expenditure remains within approved limits.
Participate in monthly financial Short Interval Control (SIC) processes.
Maintain accurate production, performance, attendance, and operational records.
Ensure relevant reports are completed accurately and submitted within the required timelines.
5. People Development and Human Resource Management
Identify training and development needs within the team and support appropriate development initiatives.
Coach and mentor employees to improve technical capability, performance, and career development.
Encourage continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the shift.
Apply company people policies, procedures, and practices consistently.
Promote positive employee relations and contribute to maintaining a healthy industrial relations environment.
Support employee engagement, motivation, and wellbeing.
Handle people-related matters professionally and escalate issues appropriately when required.
Build a culture where employees are encouraged to take responsibility for their performance and development.
6. Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve production processes, equipment utilisation, quality, safety, and team performance.
Use operational data and performance information to identify trends, losses, and improvement opportunities.
Participate in problem-solving and root-cause analysis activities.
Support the implementation and sustainability of continuous improvement initiatives.
Encourage team members to contribute ideas that improve operational performance and reduce waste.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
A Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following disciplines:
Mechanical Engineering
Industrial Engineering
Automotive Engineering
Power Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Successful completion of an AB InBev Packaging Traineeship.
Experience in managing or operating a high-speed packaging line will be highly advantageous.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production or manufacturing environment.
A strong performance record demonstrating discipline, accountability, and commitment to achieving results.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to lead and motivate teams in a shift-based operational environment.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
