What this programme is offering

UBC Professional Master’s Entrance Scholarships 2027 in Canada

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is offering Professional Master’s Entrance Scholarships to outstanding Canadian and international students entering selected professional master’s programmes in September 2027.

Beginning in 2027, UBC’s Faculty of Forestry & Environmental Stewardship will provide annual entrance scholarship opportunities for high-achieving students enrolling in its professional master’s programmes.

The scholarships are intended to support students pursuing practical, career-focused postgraduate education in areas such as geomatics, international forestry, sustainable forest management and urban forestry leadership.

Selection is based on factors including academic achievement, professional experience and extracurricular involvement.

UBC’s professional master’s programmes are intensive, non-thesis degrees designed to equip students with practical skills and industry knowledge. Depending on the programme, students can complete their studies in approximately 9 to 14 months.

1. Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management Scholarship

One exceptional Canadian citizen, permanent resident or international student entering UBC’s Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management (MGEM) programme will receive a CAD $5,000 entrance scholarship.

The award is merit-based and considers:

  • Academic achievement

  • Professional experience

  • Extracurricular activities

The successful recipient must maintain satisfactory academic progress during the first term of the programme.

There is no separate scholarship application. Applicants who submit their MGEM admission application by February 1, 2027, will automatically be considered.

The scholarship recipient is expected to be notified by February 28, 2027.

2. Master of International Forestry Scholarships

The Master of International Forestry (MIF) offers two entrance scholarship opportunities for exceptional Canadian and international students.

Full-Tuition Scholarship

The major MIF award is a full-tuition scholarship valued at approximately:

  • CAD $21,870 for domestic students

  • CAD $46,240 for international students

for the September 2027 intake.

Applicants must submit their MIF admission application by February 1, 2027, and ensure that references are received by February 10, 2027.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in an online interview in February 2027, with the successful recipient expected to be notified by February 28, 2027.

The full-tuition scholarship covers tuition fees only. International students are therefore expected to have sufficient funds to cover travel to Vancouver and living expenses.

UBC indicates that current living costs for one year in Canada are approximately CAD $23,000. International students must also demonstrate adequate financial resources when applying for a Canadian study permit.

CAD $5,000 MIF Entrance Scholarship

The MIF programme also offers a separate CAD $5,000 entrance scholarship to one qualified student.

No separate scholarship application is required. Admission applications and Personal Profiles are reviewed to determine scholarship eligibility and competitiveness.

3. Master of Sustainable Forest Management Scholarship

One exceptional Canadian citizen, permanent resident or international student entering the Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM) programme will receive a CAD $5,000 entrance scholarship.

Selection is based on a holistic assessment of:

  • Academic achievement

  • Professional experience

  • Extracurricular activities

The scholarship recipient must maintain satisfactory academic progress during the first term of study.

No separate scholarship application is required. Applicants must submit their admission application by February 1, 2027, to be considered.

The successful student is expected to be notified by February 28, 2027.

4. Master of Urban Forestry Leadership Scholarship

The Master of Urban Forestry Leadership (MUFL) programme offers a CAD $5,000 entrance scholarship to one exceptional Canadian or international student.

The award recognises:

  • Academic excellence

  • Professional experience

  • Extracurricular achievements

The successful recipient must demonstrate satisfactory progress during the first term of study.

Applicants do not need to submit a separate scholarship application. They must apply for admission by February 1, 2027, to be considered for the award.

Eligibility Requirements

The UBC Professional Master’s Entrance Scholarships are available to eligible Canadian and international students applying to the relevant professional master’s programmes for the September 2027 intake.

Applicants should demonstrate strong academic performance and, where applicable, relevant professional experience and extracurricular involvement.

Because scholarship consideration is connected to programme admission, applicants should carefully review the admission requirements for their chosen programme before submitting an application.

Application Process

Most of the scholarships do not require a separate scholarship application. Eligible applicants are automatically considered based on their programme admission applications.

For the Master of International Forestry full-tuition scholarship, applicants must also:

  1. Submit their MIF admission application by February 1, 2027.

  2. Ensure all required references are received by February 10, 2027.

  3. Be available for an online interview in February if shortlisted.

Applicants should ensure that all programme-specific admission requirements are completed before the applicable deadlines.

Why Apply for These UBC Scholarships?

The programmes are particularly relevant to students interested in:

  • Environmental management

  • Geomatics

  • International forestry
