What you'll be stepping into

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) is the largest Coca-Cola bottler in Africa, accounting for approximately 40% of Coca-Cola volumes on the continent. The company operates across several African markets, producing and distributing beverages to serve consumers and customers.

In Uganda, CCBA is seeking a qualified and experienced Process Operator to join its Mbarara Plant. The successful candidate will support efficient production operations by ensuring that processing equipment operates safely, product quality standards are maintained, and production targets are achieved.

The Process Operator will be responsible for operating the assigned production process area in accordance with approved work instructions and operating standards. The role involves conducting quality checks, monitoring production performance, carrying out routine machine care, supporting mechanical repairs, and maintaining food safety standards.

The successful candidate will help minimise production downtime, reduce waste, maintain equipment reliability, and ensure safe, consistent, and efficient production-line performance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Production Operations and Process Monitoring

  • Operate assigned processing equipment in accordance with approved work instructions and established operating procedures.

  • Monitor production-line performance against set targets and identify deviations that may affect productivity.

  • Investigate and address process disruptions using approved problem-solving methods to minimise downtime.

  • Support stable and efficient production operations by ensuring that equipment and processes function as required.

2. Quality Control and Waste Management

  • Conduct routine quality inspections and checks in accordance with established quality control and analytical procedures.

  • Record production waste accurately in the relevant documentation and information systems.

  • Analyse waste trends, identify potential causes, and implement timely corrective actions.

  • Ensure that production activities comply with established product quality standards.

3. Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Conduct routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and inspection in line with approved work instructions and maintenance schedules.

  • Perform autonomous maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures and preventive maintenance plans.

  • Identify equipment faults and operational abnormalities and take appropriate action within the scope of responsibility.

  • Support breakdown maintenance and mechanical repair activities to restore equipment functionality promptly.

  • Work with maintenance personnel to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.

4. Safety, Hygiene and Housekeeping

  • Maintain high standards of workplace cleanliness and organisation by applying 5S principles.

  • Follow all established safety procedures and safe working practices.

  • Ensure that equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition.

  • Promote a safety-conscious working environment and report unsafe conditions when identified.

5. Food Safety and Compliance

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).

  • Follow applicable food safety, hygiene, and quality assurance procedures during production.

  • Promptly report food safety, food defence, or food fraud concerns to the designated Food Safety Team Leader or SHEQ Manager.

  • Comply with established operational standards and procedures to protect product integrity and consumer safety.

Qualifications and Education

Applicants must possess:

  • A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution.

Required Work Experience

Candidates should have:

  • At least two (2) years of relevant work experience in a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturing environment.

  • Adequate experience operating production machinery.

  • A basic understanding of mechanical systems and routine equipment maintenance.

  • Practical knowledge of production processes and equipment troubleshooting.

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of the following will be an added advantage:

  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).

  • Quality testing and inspection procedures.

  • Preventive and autonomous maintenance practices.

  • Production waste monitoring and process improvement.

Required Competencies

The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.

  • Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Discipline in following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety instructions.
