What you'll be stepping into
The Lecturer in Biology teaches foundational and advanced biology courses, cultivating scientific inquiry, research skills, and appreciation for life sciences among students. Reports to the Head of Department, Science Education.
Basic Qualifications
Either a related academic Doctorate or a Masters Degree with six (06) years of teaching experience in the same discipline plus at least three publications in a refereed journal or a book chapter.
Job Tasks
Deliver engaging, hands-on lectures, laboratory sessions and fieldwork that inspire students and foster enthusiasm for biology.
Apply advanced laboratory and fieldwork techniques while strictly enforcing safety protocols and modern biological methods.
Integrate ethical science, environmental stewardship and compassionate approaches aligned with Christian values into teaching on health, conservation and global biological challenges.
Facilitate clear communication and interactive learning across lectures, practical classes and one-to-one student academic guidance.
Design and implement inclusive teaching practices that support diverse learners and promote equity in STEM education.
Adapt curriculum delivery to integrate theoretical concepts with practical applications and emerging topics such as biotechnology and climate-change biology.
Develop original teaching materials, laboratory manuals and digital resources tailored to undergraduate and postgraduate biology courses.
Set, invigilate, mark and grade coursework, practical assessments, tests and examinations, and upload results to the academic system.
Conduct independent biological research and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students on research projects and dissertations.
Manage departmental laboratory facilities, equipment and consumables to ensure safe and effective practical teaching.
Participate in curriculum review, program development and quality-assurance processes within the biology department.
Engage in community outreach, science-communication events and conservation initiatives that extend biological knowledge beyond the university.
